What this tool does

Free China maternity benefits calculator covering all 31 mainland provinces and municipalities under the 2025 three-child supporting policy package. Pick your province, parity (first / second / third child), birth complications (caesarean, multiple birth, dystocia) and the calculator returns three numbers in plain RMB: total maternity leave days (98-day national base plus your province's extension reward — Beijing and Shanghai add 60, Guangdong 80, Tibet a flat 365, Hainan 195 for the third child), maternity allowance (单位上年度月平均工资 × leave-days ÷ 30, paid by the social insurance fund), and lump-sum medical reimbursement for vaginal birth / caesarean / first-trimester miscarriage. Also computes the spouse paternity / nursing leave (10–30 days by province), the wage-allowance gap your employer must top up when your personal salary exceeds the company average (单位补差, mandatory in most provinces), and whether the spouse paternity allowance applies in your jurisdiction. Five real scenarios load with one click — Beijing first child vaginal, Guangdong second caesarean, Shanghai third premature, Sichuan twin caesarean, Zhejiang second vaginal. Built from 2025 provincial 人社厅 + 卫健委 public notices. Disclaimer up top: actual disbursement follows your local 社保局 approval. 100% client-side — your salary and province never leave the browser.

Real-world use cases

  • Decide whether to push HR for 单位补差 on the leave allowance

Your personal monthly salary is ¥18,000 but your company's 上年度 average is ¥9,500. The social-insurance fund pays the lower number — 9,500 × 158 ÷ 30 ≈ ¥50,000 for Beijing's 158-day leave. Your normal in-leave income would be 18,000 × 158 ÷ 30 ≈ ¥94,000. The gap of ¥44,000 is exactly what most provincial policies require the employer to top up (单位补差). Run this tool first, see the gap in black on the screen, then walk into HR with the number. Without the calculator you usually accept whatever HR quotes; with it, you have a concrete claim.

  • Estimate cash flow for the leave period before going on leave

Maternity allowance disbursement timing is uneven — some social-insurance funds pay in one lump sum 30–60 days after you return to work, some pay monthly during the leave. The calculator gives you the total expected number and the per-month breakdown. Pair that with your fixed costs (mortgage, daycare, parental support) to decide how much emergency fund to build up in the third trimester. For a dual-income tier-1 household this gap is usually ¥30k–¥80k across the leave window.

  • Compare leave days when relocating mid-pregnancy

You're a Shanghai-based worker considering a move to Guangzhou in month 5. Shanghai grants 158 days total; Guangdong grants 178. The 20-day difference is worth roughly 20/30 of one month's allowance. The calculator lets you flip the province dropdown to see the dollar difference immediately. The catch — the province that pays is the one where your social insurance is registered at the time of birth, not where you live. Move social insurance registration first, give it 3 months to settle, then deliver.

  • Sanity-check a self-employed flexible-worker scenario

A solo freelancer enrolled in 灵活就业 social insurance (without an employer) is in a special category — most provinces do not let 灵活就业 carry maternity insurance, so the social-insurance allowance path is closed. The medical-fee reimbursement path is open via 城乡居民医保 on a flat-rate basis (¥1,500–¥3,000 per delivery in most provinces). Toggle "单位是否参保" to off in the calculator to see the version that zeroes out the allowance and shows only the medical reimbursement — the realistic number for a self-employed scenario.

  • Triple-check a twin-birth + caesarean total

Twin caesarean in Sichuan: 98 (national base) + 15 (dystocia / caesarean) + 15 (one extra baby) + 60 (Sichuan reward) = 188 days. At a 9,500 company average, the maternity allowance alone is 9,500 × 188 ÷ 30 ≈ ¥59,500, plus medical reimbursement around ¥3,500 for the caesarean. The calculator does this addition rather than forcing you to read three regulations and a 卫健委 notice. Bring the printout to your 社保局 visit if HR disputes the dystocia line.

Common pitfalls

  • Treating maternity allowance as based on your personal salary. It is computed from the company's 上年度 average wage (社保缴费基数). If your salary is higher, push for 单位补差; if lower, you receive more than your normal paycheck during leave — keep all of it.

  • Forgetting the 2021 three-child reform extensions. Almost every province raised its reward bracket after Sept 2021. Don't use a pre-2021 leave-days table — the calculator carries the 2025 version. Beijing 158, not 128.

  • Assuming 灵活就业 (self-employed flexible-worker) social insurance covers maternity. In most provinces it does not. The allowance route is closed; only the medical-fee reimbursement via 城乡居民医保 applies. Toggle "单位是否参保" off in the calculator to see this version.

  • Mixing up dystocia (难产) and caesarean (剖宫产) rules. Most provinces treat caesarean as automatically dystocia for +15 days; a few (Shandong) require a separate hospital-issued 难产证明. Verify against your local social-insurance bureau with the discharge summary in hand.

Privacy

Your province, parity selection, salary numbers (personal and company average), birth-complication toggles, and the employer- insured status are all computed locally in JavaScript and never sent to any server. There is no analytics layer recording the numbers you type. The shareable URL only encodes the province and parity — it deliberately does not encode salary or whether your employer enrolled you in maternity insurance, because those fields could identify your household and employer. Fill in your real numbers freely; nothing leaves the browser tab.
