What this tool does

Free online live countdown timer to any date or event. Type an event name, pick a target date and time, and the page tick-tick-ticks down to the second — days, hours, minutes, seconds — plus total days, total hours, total minutes, and which weekday the target falls on. One-click presets for the events people actually count down to: Chinese New Year (Spring Festival, computed from the lunar calendar year by year), Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat, National Day, New Year's Day, Christmas, Gaokao (June 7), and Zhongkao (June 14). Track multiple countdowns side-by-side — your wedding, your kid's exam, the next vacation — they save to your browser's local storage and survive a tab close. A shareable link encodes the event name and target date so a friend opens the same countdown without an account. 100% client-side, no signup, no tracking, no server round-trip.

How Countdown Timer fits into your work

Use it for fast estimates, comparisons, and planning numbers before you make the final call.

Calculation jobs

  • Getting a realistic range before a purchase, plan, workout, or schedule decision.
  • Comparing scenarios by changing one input at a time.
  • Turning rough assumptions into a number you can discuss.

Calculation checks

  • Double-check units, dates, rates, and rounding assumptions.
  • Treat health, finance, tax, and legal outputs as planning aids, not professional advice.
  • Save the inputs that produced an important result so you can reproduce it later.

Real-world use cases

  • Counting down to your kid's Gaokao with a pinned tab

A parent tweaks the Gaokao preset to June 7 09:00 and leaves the tab open on the kitchen iPad. Every morning the family sees "172 days, 14 hours" shrink. The total-hours readout (4,142 hours) turns an abstract date into a study budget you can actually divide across subjects. No app install, no notification spam, just a glance.

  • A wedding countdown both partners can open from one link

You set "Wedding 2027-05-20 15:00", hit Share, and paste the URL into your couple's chat. Both phones now show the same number ticking in local time. When one of you flies to a venue in another time zone, the countdown follows the absolute instant, so you never argue about whether it's 142 or 143 days left.

  • Tracking a product launch and a vacation side by side

A marketer keeps two countdowns stacked: "Black Friday drop" at 38 days and "Bali trip" at 61 days. Because both persist in local storage, closing the laptop on Friday and reopening Monday brings them back at fresh values, recomputed from the current time rather than a stale stored counter. One page, two deadlines, zero spreadsheet.

  • A teacher building anticipation for the term's last day

A teacher projects "Last day of term" onto the classroom screen for the first five minutes of each week. Watching it drop from 47 days to 12 days gives a class a shared sense of the finish line, and the weekday readout ("falls on a Friday") helps everyone plan the party. The shareable link goes home in the weekly newsletter.

Common pitfalls

  • Entering the target as a date with no time defaults to 00:00, so a "June 7 exam" silently counts to midnight, not 9 AM; always set the hour for exams and flights.

  • Treating the count-up after the target as a bug; it's intentional for anniversaries and "days since", so delete the entry if you only wanted a one-shot deadline.

  • Assuming a shared link carries a time zone; it doesn't, it shows in each viewer's local zone, so confirm 15:00 means the same wall-clock moment for a long-distance plan.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser. Event names and target dates are saved only to this device's local storage and are never sent to a server. When you click Share, the event name and target date go into the URL query string (so a friend can open the same countdown) — that link is the one place your event text leaves the page, so avoid sharing private labels you wouldn't put in a plain text message.
