What this tool does
The honest Korean vocabulary, expanded to 500. Every entry was pulled from the public TOPIK I and TOPIK II official word lists, the National Institute of Korean Language frequency corpus, and the Sogang / Yonsei / Ewha beginner-and-intermediate textbook word lists. No LLM-generated entries, no invented meanings. Together these 500 cover what you need to read most beginner-to-intermediate Korean and survive months in Seoul, not just one week.
Sixteen categories: greetings, numbers (both Sino-Korean 일 이 삼 and native 하나 둘 셋), time, family, food, colors, animals, 70+ verbs with the full four-form conjugation table (plain / polite / past / future, every ㄷ ㅂ ㄹ 으 르 irregular labeled), adjectives, the particles that hold every Korean sentence together (은/는, 이/가, 을/를, 에, 에서, 와/과, 의, 도, 만, 부터, 까지, 에게, 한테, 보다), plus six new categories: body parts head-to-toe, weather and seasons, transport from 버스 to 비행기, daily-life objects from 칫솔 to 컴퓨터, emotion words from 기쁘다 to 스트레스, and 50+ places from 학교 to 우주 including Korea, China, Japan, USA, Seoul, Busan, Jeju, Incheon.
Every card shows the word in Hangul, RR romanization (Korean government standard, "Seoul" not "Sŏul"), a syllable-by-syllable pronunciation hint, Chinese and English meanings, the part of speech, and an example sentence with Chinese and English translation. Every verb gets the full four-form conjugation table with the irregulars written out (하다 → 해요, 듣다 → 들어요, 이다 → 예요/이에요, 돕다 → 도와요, 만들다 → 만들어요). A Play button calls your browser's built-in Korean voice (Web Speech API, ko-KR) to read the word aloud. Filter by any of the 16 categories or search by Hangul, romanization, English, or Chinese. Star words to build a personal study list, saved in localStorage and never sent to a server.

Real-world use cases
Cramming TOPIK I vocab three weeks before the test
You sit TOPIK I in 21 days and the official list has roughly 800 words. Filter to numbers, time, and particles first, drill the star list every morning on the subway, and use the Play button to fix 받침 pronunciation before the listening section. Hitting 500 solid words clears the 듣기 and 읽기 floor for level 2.
Surviving the first month of an exchange semester in Seoul
You land in Seoul for a semester at Yonsei and need to order food, ride the 지하철, and not freeze at the convenience store. Star the food, transport, and greetings categories, run them for 15 minutes a night, and you can read most 편의점 labels and ask 얼마예요 by week two instead of pointing at things.
Drilling verb conjugation so 해요체 stops feeling random
You keep saying 가다 when you mean 가요 and freeze on irregular verbs. Filter to the 70+ verbs, open the four-form table, and shadow each row out loud: 듣다 to 들어요, 돕다 to 도와요, 만들다 to 만들어요. Twenty minutes a day for a week and the ㄷ and ㅂ irregulars become muscle memory, not lookups.
A teacher building a 20-word weekly quiz from a real list
You teach a community Korean class and want a quiz that matches TOPIK frequency, not a textbook chapter. Search by category, copy 20 words with Hangul, RR romanization, and an example sentence, and hand out a sheet your students can verify against a dictionary. The shared filter URL lets the class study the same set at home.
Common pitfalls
Memorizing only the dictionary form like 가다 and freezing in conversation. Always learn the 해요체 polite form (가요) alongside it, since that is what you actually say to a shopkeeper.
Using Sino-Korean numbers for your age. Say 스물다섯 살 (native) not 이십오 살 for 25 years old; native numbers count age, hours, and people.
Ignoring the consonant or vowel ending when picking a particle. After a consonant use 은/이/을 (책은); after a vowel use 는/가/를 (나는). Getting this wrong is the top giveaway of broken Korean.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser. The words and example sentences ship with the page, the Play button uses your operating system's built-in Korean voice through the Web Speech API with no external call, and your starred study list is saved only in localStorage on this device. Filters and your search term sit in the page URL so you can share a study set, but starred words and nothing you type ever reach a server.
